Health and Births and Possessives

I know...kind of a random hodgepodge (is that how you spell that?) of blog subjects, huh?

First off, I want to tell you some exciting news. Cass was born just a little over 3 weeks ago. We talked to our doctor a few days ago and he told us that he had already had another home birth/water birth. Can you believe it? So cool!! Apparently there are indeed people interested in such things...just needed a little open opportunity thrown their way...needed to see that it was a possibility here after all. I'm really excited for our doctor. He said it went really well.

Secondly, it is time. I've started the process of getting healthy again. By that I mean eating the right things, drinking the right things, and losing this baby weight. I haven't started exercising yet (although, can't wait), but today I started with the drinking lots of water thing (at least 32 oz. a day). I'm not much of a drinker no matter what the beverage is, so this is always a challenge. As of Monday I will be having no sweets/sugar for a month. My plan was to eat as much junk as I could for the next few days. :) Ha ha ha...of course. But, I'm dialing down on that. I was having lots of Coke and chocolate...2 of my favorite things. But, I started to feel really yucky last night, so we might start that no sweets thing (or at least limiting) earlier than Monday. :) I'm excited though.

Lastly, which is it......Cass' or Cass's? :) I found this website and it made complete sense to me, but throughout my thorough 10 second Google research, it seems to be that either is acceptable...or probably stated more accurately, there is just simply not a set way to do it. Some manuals have one way and some have the other way as the correct form. So, all of you grammar specialists out there, tell me which you would use and why. I personally like "Cass's" better and it's what I've been using so far...that's how I say the possessive form of her name (I wouldn't pronounce the possessive form of her name just like I pronounce the non-possessive form of her name...for instance Cass outfit, which is the way Cass' outfit would be pronounced if pronounced according to spelling alone...I would say Cass's outfit), so that's the way I'd prefer to write it. In other words, I'd prefer to spell it out the way I say it phonetically. But, if it's wrong, or even just more wrong than the other, maybe I should write it the other way. Thoughts? Recommendations? Help me out here.

Now, pictures...

Eissa usually hates to get in her bed to go to sleep. A couple of nights ago though, she had wandered off to Cass's carseat right before bedtime. So, Joel just carried her to her bed in the carseat.
She was completely content in Cass's carseat.
I put pigtails in Eissa's hair again yesterday, so we had to take some pictures.

Her hair is so curly that it rebels a little with pigtails. They just look like 2 fountains coming out of her head. It's really cute though.

I was playing with Hadley's hair and wanted to take a picture of how long it is when pulled straight.

She was having a hard time being able to hold her hair so that the camera could get it and look at the camera herself.
So I just ended up doing it for her. :)
This is what Cass does...kind of passes out with her eyes open after her milk cocktails. :)
As I nursed Cass this morning, I looked over to see this. Oh yes, the whole household was nursing. And no, there was no prompting from me.

Babies are all done with their breakfasts.
That cracks me up that they're the same size.

Well, I guess Eissa can through out the baby doll, she's got a live one!
Cass looks just like her too!

Hey Michawn! I finally was able to try the homemade wipes and so far we love them. The tea tree oil has a pretty strong smell, but other than that there's nothing to complain about. I used Brawny paper towels like you said, and they hold up really well. I didn't use the lavender oil because I was in a hurry and didn't see it quickly enough to get it. I used baby oil instead and used the lavender baby soap instead of the regular stuff. I figured since there are several recipes out there, it would be fine to use whatever I knew was good for a baby's butt. I think it will be a major savings on money, and a major savings on diaper cream and red tushy problems.

The name thing is a tough one. I remember in school learning that if a name has an "s" on the end, there's not need to add another after the apostrophe. That was my main drawback on Carys' name. It seems like such a weird rule. I never even thought to look it up. Grammatical rules change all the time. So, if you did the research and found that both are acceptable, I say do it the way you want to. I'll look it up too, although, since I have that rule ingrained in my brain, it might be hard to break it: Carys's. Cass's. English is so ridiculous sometimes, that's for sure.

Wish you guys could use all your cleaning energy on our home! We've had some kind of sickness in our home for three weeks now, trading persons, but different illnesses. We have a couch overflowing with laundry like that picture of yours, and every surface in our home has stuff piled where it doesn't belong. Tough to look at, but I knew I had to let some of it go when I got the mastitis earlier this week. We've been surviving by recycling socks and pants/shorts!

Your house looks great and so organized in the pictures after all your work!

Michawn,
I love the new arrangement of pictures at the beginning of your blog. I printed the blog for Granny to enjoy. Wouldn't you know it? Those pictures wouldn't print. Kind of strange. Love the pictures. Hadley trying to see the camera is so cute. The nursing is also cute. I wonder who thought that up?
Love,
Mama

Fun update! Very cool that there has already been another home birth! Loved the family nursing picture! So fun! Also thought it was cute to Eissa in the baby car seat in her crib! Looks like she was using it as a reading chair for her book time! :) Enjoy the last weekend of sugar!

I agree that the s' is correct, although it does seem awkward. I think it's okay to do s's, though. That's probably what I'd do. But, WWMHD?

Mr. Heron would be so ashamed. Did we learn nothing??? :o)

5. If a singular noun ends in an "s," use "'s" to create the possessive form only if the noun ends in a "s" sound. However, if the noun ends in a "z" sound, use just an apostrophe without adding an additional "s." This produces a more pronounceable possessive.

Correct: The car in question was Roger Weiss's red convertible.

Also Correct:

I was a student in Professor Abrams' Torts class.
6. If a plural noun ends in an "s," it is preferable to use only an apostrophe -- and not an additional "s" -- to create the possessive. Of the three formulations presented below, the first most clearly and concisely indicates a plural possessive.

Correct: The car in question was the Weisses' red convertible.

Less Desirable:

The car in question was the Weiss's red convertible.

Also Undesirable:

The car in question was the Weisses's red convertible.

This explanation is interesting. I always just use an apostrophe when a name ends in s. It is pronounced the same. Cass' is still pronounced Casses, just like Cass's.

Woke up and thought I'd do an early English lesson. :) Back to bed before the alarm goes off.

Mama

Michawn,
See if you can send me the picture at the beginning of your blog another way that I can print it. I really want a copy of that.
Another home birth in such a short time is exciting.

Mama

Those pictures are so funny! Love that everyone is "nursing", you must be nursing a ton for them to pick up on it like that. Girl, I completley understand!!

If the name ends with an s and is just one syllable you add an 's. Therefore, Cass's is correct.
