Brazil in the News - Part 1

http://www.abcnews.go.com/Nightline/story?id=5861778&page=1

Aimee let me know that there was a fascinating piece on ABC News last night (thanks so much Aimee). I had to google and there you go...the link above. It is SO great in that it really gives you a glimpse of what is going on here. I really wish I could just embed the video here, but I can't, so just click on the link above to get to it.

Go see it and then come back for my thoughts.

So, my thoughts?...

{Update since I first wrote this post: I just realized that the couple they interviewed in Brasilia, Edson & Márcia Suzuki, (Brasilia is about 2 1/2 hours from here) actually have strong ties with many of our friends in the mission (Asas). They have been here several times to speak at the Monday morning devotions held at the hangar. Check out their website, English version, here. Wow...that's about all I have to say. I URGE you to read the stories of these children, the survivors.}

{Another update: There is so much information here already and I truly want you to check it all out. Therefore, I am going to be posting my thoughts, that are already written out, on another day. It's better that way anyway. I want to know your thoughts, uninfluenced by mine, here in the comments section.}

So, please...leave me your thoughts. This is a huge issue and I'd love to know what you think.

I caught half of that piece on ABC and it was really interesting. Amazing to see journalist interview Christian missionaries and so neat to see the one little girl who was rescued and adopted and would have been killed for such a minor thing. I'm going to watch the rest! Thanks for the link!

The true is that the Brazilian government is turning a blind... It is a taboo! Why do you think that they fired Marina da Silva? She didn't agree with the way government was dealing with subjects like this one... It's a shame!!Murder has a ancient culture???c'mon!!

my thoughts... one person in the video said "i'm not going to defend infanticide but to them (indians)it's not murder." Hmmm... kinda sounds like the good ol u.s. of a. to me... you might call it murder but to them it's a woman's right to choose... or and indian's right to choose....look folks...those people (indians) technology or not need Jesus, so send in the missionaries!!! The sooner the gospel is preached the sooner we all get to go home!

Wow. It was interesting to me that there did seem to be objectivity for the most part on the part of the journalist, which is rare these days. Up until he went in to meet the tribe with the little girl wearing the Jesus shirt, I was being impressed. It was like, he saw that and got caught up or something. Also, the way the government is acting, its like these people don't have a choice in following Jesus. I'm disappointed that there wasn't an emphasis put on the fact that the native people receive these services regardless of whether or not they come to Jesus. It was also interesting that though the Brasilian official kept pulling out all of that "documentation" that NONE of it was shown to us to substantiate his claims. I think had that happened, it would have made him look foolish indeed! Also, about the ruining the ancient cultures thing. I'm going to go with, what a crock. That's really the nicest way to put it. The flat out truth is that their culture was technically "ruined" long ago. If we go from what their society was to what it is now, they are scratching out a survival and that's about it. AND if we were to get technical about it, knowing Jesus would revive their culture (in a wonderful way, of course), and start undoing the damage that the deceiver originally inflicted. Killing is a specialty of his and infanticide falls right in there with it. One more thing, regardless of whether or not the government wants to get involved in "influencing" the tribes, what's the big deal with offering to take the babies already marked for death or giving an alternative solution like medical care? They were already going to get rid of the child anyway, so.... Plus, I'm thinking the mothers of these children would make different choices if they were not motivated by unfounded fear and unbelievably irrational peer pressure! That's where Jesus comes in. You gotta present the right fix for the problem. Duh. Okay, I'm done monologuing. :) I'm looking forward to your comments.

I had no clue this was happening in my country. :( I checked out all the links you provided and you know what this is what the pagan people were doing when God chose the Hebrew people as His own. It's all over the world. Satan does not want children to be born, grow and love and serve Father God. No, SAtan wants them all dead! it's so sad. thank you for posting this topic. BTW, you have a beautiful family. Do you all speak Portuguese? Deus abencoe. :)
